2019 Inter-House Sport Competition At St. Michael’s International School.

It was a joy-filled day on Tuesday, 5th of March 2019, as students, parents, teachers, priests, religious and invited dignitaries converged at St. Michael’s International School premises for their inter-house sports competition. The event kicked off with an opening prayer led by the Vicar-General (Administration), Very Rev. Fr. Isa Emmanuel Saliu after which the national and school anthems were sung.

The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Gabriel Ofoke, in his opening speech thanked God for making the day a reality. He said that  sports makes people to be mentally alert, promotes healthy living and health is wealth.  He congratulated the parents and thanked everyone present and prayed that God grant them the grace to do well in all their activities.

Sr. Appolonia Ibeke SND, the principal, who also gave an address welcomed and recognized the presence of parents, invited guests. She expressed appreciation to them for their encouragement and support to the school. She challenged the students to keep up the good work they have started to uphold the name of the school.   

The programme continued with a house by house march past as students paraded themselves in their colourful sportswear, representing their houses. The competing houses were Yellow house, Blue house, Red house and Green house.

Other sporting events that followed were track and field events such as 800m, 100m, relay, shot put, and javelin. Activities which further spiced the occasion were Kambari dance, Igbo cultural dance and acrobatics group.

The Students lived up to the expectations of the occasion as they displayed the spirit of sportsmanship in the games. Parents enjoyed every bit of the programme as they attested to the excellent and impartial officiating by the judges and officials. At the keenly contested Inter-House sports, medals were won and gifts awarded to students who came out in first, second and third positions. The Green House which won the highest number of gold medals emerged as the overall winner of the Inter–House sports competition.

Very Rev. Fr. Isa Emmanuel Saliu on behalf of the Proprietor of the school, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, expressed his sincere thanks to the staff of the school for their organization and community spirit. He stated that the competition had been a test of endurance as the young talents displayed their God-given skills. He prayed that God will bless them and help to develop their talents for the glory of His name. He further thanked the parents for their constant support and those who have donated various trophies for the occasion. The inter–house sports ended with a closing prayer by Fr. Isa
